I casi più conosciuti sono quelli della Sierra Morena (nelle attuali province di Jaén, Córdoba e Sevilla, in Andalusia), avviati sotto gli auspici del re Carlo III. Esistono però anche altri esempi degni di attenzione sul piano storico come il caso di Ferrol in Galizia. Dopo la perdita di Gibilterra a inizio Settecento si pose in Spagna la questione di riqualificare la politica navale anche attraverso la riorganizzazione dei Dipartimenti marittimi. Ferrol, in Galizia, costituisce l’esempio della fondazione di un nuovo insediamento come sede del nuovo dipartimento marittimo del Nord. Il riordinamento del territorio necessitava di città in linea con le nuove funzioni amministrative. A tale scopo si progettò, ideò, rimodellò e costruì un nuovo spazio urbano, territoriale e paesaggistico, ordinato secondo le teorie urbanistiche dell’epoca.
