Plus qu’un simple exercice de microanalyse du social, l’étude de ce cas nous permet d’aborder une série d’enjeux cruciaux, touchant non seulement au monde du travail vénitien en une période singulièrement troublée de l’histoire de la ville, mais également aux interactions entre populations vénitienne(s) et grecque(s), ou encore aux grands équilibres sociaux de la communauté grecque-orthodoxe. Derrière l’apparente banalité d’une querelle juridique engageant un petit nombre d’individus de diverses origines, c’est ainsi tout un paysage social et symbolique qui se déploie, sur lequel la problématique du travail offre un observatoire unique.
