With the institution in Vienna of the\nCouncil of Spain in 1714, the Sardinian kingdom territorial and political models were Milan or Naples.\nSardinia expanded its ties with the Italian territories, replacing those kept with Spain for centuries. At\nthe same, Sardinia became a bargaining chip in the search for a new territorial and political balance. The\nImperial shade kept it safe in Utrecht. However, in 1717 Philip V broke this balance, thus precipitating\na decision already known: in 1720 Sardinia passed to the House of Savoy.
