A tal fine, egli utilizza alcune enumerazioni della popolazione che, fino ai primi anni del '600, costituiscono la fonte principale, se non l'unica, per uno studio di tipo demografico; infatti, solo a partire da questo periodo le registrazioni parrocchiali acquistano, gradatamente, una sufficiente completezza e regolarità. In this paper the author outlines the demographic development of the two Tuscan States between the middle of the 16th and the first part of the 17th century. For this purpose, he draws upon population censuses and counts which are, till the beginning of 1600, the main demographic sources; indeed it is only at the beginning of the 17th century that parish registers gradually become sufficiently complete and continuously kept. Dans cette note l'auteur donne une esquisse de l'évolution démographique des deux principaux Etats toscans entre la moitié du XVIe et la première partie du XVIIe siècle.
